Personal Support Program - PSP

The Personal Support Program (PSP) is a Commonwealth Government initiative which assists people on income support payments to stay connected to the economic and social life of the community. PSP provides assistance for people who may be experiencing challenging personal situations that might be holding them back from achieving their goals or participating more fully in society.

People accessing the PSP receive individualised attention to ensure they reach their full potential, both socially and economically.  They might be facing many issues in their lives and PSOP can help them overcome these issues and where necessary, link participants to appropriate services.  Participants stay in the PSP for up to two years and see our Case Managers at least once a month, or more if required.

Case Study
Michael has been working with a number of Colony 47 programs since he was 16 years old. He is now 22 and has joined PSP. Michael is very keen to find work in hospitality and get off the “weed” and cigarettes. He suffers depression and anxiety and more recently, isolation in his attempt to distance himself from unwanted influences. With the assistance of C47, Michael has been able to maintain his public housing for the past four years and now PSP is helping him gain confidence, motivation and focus. After initial difficulties in getting him to once again engage in the Program, Michael is now attending his appointments and is working part-time as a kitchen hand. C47 provided some work clothing and also a washing machine to further enhance his independence. There has been an obvious shift in Michael’s confidence and he is more upbeat in his demeanour. Clearly, Michael has a way to go, but with ongoing support from PSP and his own commitment, the future is looking much brighter.
