SCOPE – Local Community Partnership
SCOPE is the Local Community Partnership for three regions across Southern Tasmania. LCPs are part of the Australian Government’s Career Advice Australia range of programs, funded through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations - DEEWR. SCOPE aims to assist young people aged 13 – 19 years to gain the skills, experience and professional guidance to help them make informed career choices. To achieve this, SCOPE partners with industry and employer groups, schools, professional career advisers, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government organizations. Key programs include Try’a Trade, CSI, the Adopt a School Program and HoroSCOPE.
All programs aim to promote and facilitate knowledge of career pathways and future opportunities, particularly in emerging industries and areas of skills shortages.
Try’a Trade
This is based on the WorldSkills Australia model and is a partnership with the Department of Education (Guaranteeing Futures and TAFE), Department of Economic Development, RICA, Group Training Australia and industry. Students pre-select three trades they wish to experience and then gain an insight into these areas through a hands-on project in each trade. The event attracts up to 650 students from around 35 schools and is now an annual event.
