Job Placement, Employment and Training - JPET
JPET assists young people 15-21 years of age who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who face barriers which are often multiple and complex. Through case management, JPET works alongside young people towards overcoming barriers and achieving goals including education, training, employment and participation in the community. Barriers include homelessness, mental health, legal, relationship, family, drug and alcohol, self esteem, social, health, numeracy and literacy and transport problems. Assistance is also available for barriers such as purchasing bus tickets, education materials, equipment required for training, food, health services, mental health services, hygiene products and clothing including interview clothes and training uniforms. JPET also has links with Risdon Prison. Risdon Prison Prior to release from prison, JPET engages with inmates who have indicated their interest in becoming a participant in the Program. This provides an opportunity to identify the personal and education, training or employment goals of the young person and strategies to achieve those goals. Importantly it also identifies the barriers to achieving the goals, including those that may arise through transition from incarceration back into the community. It is envisaged that by providing young people exiting incarceration with JPET support, the likelihood of recidivism will be significantly reduced. To date there have been ten JPET clients registered through this Program. |
