Settlement Grants Program - SGP

The Settlement Grants Program delivers tenancy support services to humanitarian entrants in southern Tasmania. Secure and affordable housing is regarded as a key success indicator of successful settlement into a new country.

The program works alongside other housing support agencies and settlement programs to provide ongoing tenancy and housing support to individuals and families as part of their resettlement into Tasmania.

During a time of housing shortage both in the rental and public housing areas, humanitarian entrants require specialised support strategies in their attempts to compete against other people looking for affordable and secure housing options.

These families have often come to Australia from a long journey in refugee camps and displacement from their own family members and community. Their resettlement into Tasmania has been significantly assisted by this Program which offers specific support in normalising family resettlement through assistance in navigating the journey into a new home, community and support networks.
